The Bay is located about 320 km away from Colombo and is about 4km south of the market town of Pottuvil. The Colombo - Batticaloa highway via the Pelmadulla - Embilipitiya Road is the easiest route to drive and takes about 7 hours but Arugam Bay is always worth the effort. There are local buses that will take you to Pottuvil from Colombo Fort while the journey takes over 10 hours at times.
